DESCRIPTIONS:
Acacia baileyana 'Purpurea' is commonly known as Cootamundra Wattle or Purple Wattle or Purple fern-leaf Wattle, is a large shrub or small tree that grows 5-8 meters tall. It's characterised by its striking purple new growth, which transition to a blue-grey shade as it matures. In late winter to spring, it produces abundant spherical, golden yellow flowers head.
Foliage:
* The leaves are feathery and bipinnate, with new growth exhibiting a vibrant purple hue that changes to a silvery-grey tone as it matures. The leaflets are small, linear and arranged along a rachis.
Flowers :
* The plant produces profusion, fragrant, golden yellow, ball-shaped flowers in late winter and spring. These flowers are striking contrast against the foliage.
Growth Habit:
* It is a fast growing, relatively low maintenance plant that can reach a height of 5-8 meters high and a width of 3-5 meters wide.
Hardiness:
* Acacia baileyana Purpurea is a frost hardy and drought tolerant, making it adaptable to a wide range of climates.
Plant Uses:
* It is suitable for use as a privacy screens, informal hedge or feature shrub in native gardens. It's also good for slopes and banks.
