                       PLANT DESCRIPTIONS:

Golden Barrel Cactus  a slowly growing forms, a pale green, barrel shaped stem with prominent ribs adorned with areoles sprouting bright golden spines.  Bright yellow flowers, 2 in are produced from late spring to summer on mature specimens when receiving enough bright light.

Appearance  Golden Barrel Cactus has a globe-like appearance and is recognised but its magnificent colour that comes from vertical yellow ribs that lines its edges.  The spines of the golden barrel will light up any landscape with its magnificent colour. 

Life span  the life span of Golden Barrel Cactus is 50 - 100 years.  This cactus commonly grows from 2 - 4 feet but may grow taller between 6 - 10 feet tall depending on the environment.  It can reach to a diameter of 18 to 30 inches  or more.  It takes about 20 - 30 long years for Barrel to reach maturity (3 & 1/2 feet in diameter with 35 ribs).

Pups  Barrel Cactus pups often developed on the mature plant and you can propagate this pups for new plant too. 

Fertiliser  fertilise the Barrel Cactus once a year during spring.  A low nitrogen liquid fertiliser is a good formula for the Barrel Cactus.  The amount of fertiliser will depend on the size of the plant and container.  Consult the packaging for guidance on the exact amount. 

Sunlight  eight hours a day of sunlight is essential for Giant Barrel Cactus to blooms, with well drained soil and careful watering will promote optimal growth and blooming. 

Watering  cactuses are drought tolerant.  Water your Cactus once per month during the warmer dry season.  It does not need any watering during the winter months.  Too much water can cause this cactus to rot.  Plant your Barrel Cactus with well drained soil with less attention.
