ALOCASIA 'Dark Star' 20cm

DESCRIPTIONS:

Alocasia 'Dark Star', is a hybrid elephant ear plant known for its large, Emerald-green leaves that emerge from deep black stems. It's a popular choice for adding a tropical and dramatic touch to indoors spaces, often being referred to as an Elephant Ear due to the size of its foliage. 

Hybrid:

*  Bred from four different elephant ear varieties,  including Alocasia odora and Alocasia imperial Dark, to create a plant with impressive size and cold tolerant. 

Appearance :

*  Large, glossy,  heart-shaped leaves with emerald green color and striking deep black stems and veins. 

Growth/Dimensions:

*  Can reach to a height of 6 feet high and 5 feet wide,  making it a statement piece in any room.

How to care:

*  Requires bright, indirect light, high humidity and well draining soil. 

Toxicity:

*  All parts of the plants are toxic to humans and animals,  so keep out of reach from small children and pets. 

Soil type:

*  A rich of organic mix helps retain moisture and provide nutrients for the plant.  A slightly acidic to neutral pH: between 6.0 and 7.0

*  Perlite or other similar material like pumice, Coco coir, orchid bark will help improve the drainage and aeration. 

Watering:

*  Like other Alocasias, needs consistently moist but not soggy to thrive.  Water when the top soil is dry out, make sure the water drained through the drainage holes to avoid root rot.

*  Water roughly every 7-10 days, depending on the environment and pot size.

Fertiliser:

*  A balanced liquid fertiliser with an NPK ratio of 20-20-20 is a good choice.  You can apply this fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.  Alternatively,  you can consider using organic options like fish emultion or seaweed extract.
