PLANT DESCRIPTIONS
Mammillaria Backebergiana is a cactus native to Mexico.
Appearance: The Cactus has a green stems with spiralling tubercles and spines. The spines are yellowish or brownish-yellow and tipped with hooks. The stems are spherical when young and becomes cylindrical as they age. The Cactus has fuzzy white hair between the tubercles.
Flowers: The Mammillaria Backebergiana has pink flowers that bloom in a crown around the top quarter of the plants.
Size: The stems can grow up to 30 Centimetres tall.
Habitat: The Cactus is native to Mexico, and can be found on cliff at elevations 1,900 meters.
Cares: The Cactus prefers sunny conditions, but needs light shade during the hottest months. It should be planted in well draining soil and watered deeply, allowing the soil to dry out completely before watering again. The Cactus can be brought indoors if there is a risk of freezing temperatures.
The Mammillaria Backebergiana is a good example of how plants can survive in arid conditions with minimal resources. It can be used in educational settings to teach about water conservation and econological balance.
