Quick Overview

DESCRIPTIONS:

Pellaea rotundifolia "Button Fern", is a compact, evergreen Fern native to Australia and New Zealand.  It is characterised by its small, rounded, dark green leaflets arranged along arching fronds.  The fronds are known for being densely covered with these button-like leaflets,  giving the ferns its common name.

KEY FEATURES:

Appearance:

*  Compact evergreen with arching fronds.

Leaflets :

*  Small, rounded, dark green and densely packed on the fronds.

Native Region:

*  Native to Australia and New Zealand.

Growth Habit:

*  Thrives in well-drained soil, and can grown indoors and outdoors.

Plant Uses:

*  popular houseplant, addition to any Fern gardens and hanging baskets.

Hardiness:

*  More tolerant of cooler temperatures than some other ferns, but dislike frost.

CARE  TIPS:

Sunlight:

*  Prefers bright, indirect sunlight.

Watering:

*  Needs moist soil, but not soggy, allow to dry out between watering.

Humidity:

*  Enjoys high humidity, making it perfect for bathrooms or kitchen locations.

Soil types:

*  A well-drained, humus rich Potting mix is ideal.  This can be achieved by using a standard houseplant potting mix, or by creating your own blend of peat moss or coconut coir, perlite,  and vermiculite.  Ensure the soil remains consistently moist, but not waterlogged.

Fertiliser:

*  Does benefit from fertilisation, but it is important to do it sparingly.  Fertilise during the growing season, typically from late winter or early spring to late fall.  A balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser, diluted to half strength, applied every 4-6 weeks is usually sufficient.

*  Be careful not to over fertilize, as this can cause issues like brown leaf tips.
