DESCRIPTIONS:
* The purple heart plant is also known as Tradescantia pallida is a low-growing, succulent plant with striking purple leaves and small pink flowers.
Leaves:
* Dark purple, lance-shaped leaves that are 7.6 - 12.7 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. The leaves are covered in fine hairs and form a sheath around the stems.
Flowers:
* Light pink flowers that are 1.3 - 1.9 cm wide and have three ovate petals arranged in triangle. The flowers open only in the morning and are located at the stem tips.
Growth Habit:
* A trailing, sprawling plant that can grow up to 12 - 18 inches tall and wide.
Soil:
* Prefers moist, well drained, fertile and sandy soil.
Sunlight:
* Grows best in full sun to partly shaded position.
Hardiness:
* The purple heart plant can survive the winter outdoors during cooler months. It can be grown indoor with plenty of bright lights near glass window.

Care:
* Water thoroughly and allow the top soil to dry out before watering again. Add a diluted liquid fertiliser every other watering over spring and summer. Snip out any spent or damage leaves. Repot in spring as the roots fill the pot.
